Viarco is the only pencil factory in Portugal, and probably one of the most versatile in the world. Its history is old, beginning in Vila do Conde, in the year 1907 and at that time was known as “Portugália - Portuguese Pencil Factory”. In 1931, it has a turning point, when Manoel Vieira Araújo, an experienced headgear industrialist, acquires the company. In 1936 is registered the brand that would become emblematic for the country and would accompany generations of Portuguese to this day - Viarco. Five years later, in 1941, the company moved to S. João da Madeira where it still works. Always attentive to the evolution of the sector, Viarco produces a wide range of common and technical pencils, designing specific products to order. Without neglecting the social part, the company often associates itself in partnerships with institutions linked to education, culture and solidarity. Building the Pencil Museum and providing several workshops for young artists at the beginning of their careers are projects under development.
