Play with the Stranger explores the recent and historic work of artists who use dolls and substitutions of the human figure as interrogation props to be played. As a commodity, dolls form a direct channel between producers and consumers, their fixed bodies shape popular tastes andas they become control apparatuses, becoming these representations of normative models and values. The artists of the exhibition, however, appropriate and transform such models of objectification. The photographic, sculptural and performative works thus become discursive starting points aroundcomplex body issues about gender, consumption, work, identity and religion. From the Treger / Saint Sylvester Collection will be presented mainly sculptures and dolls that evoke strange body associations that reveal a relationship with the repressed and the current issues of hybridity and gender. The curator proposes a dialogue of the collection with works by contemporary artists, combining it with a series of films, projections and objects, namely of the American artist Mike Kelley with whom the title of theexposure is directly related by citing its historical project and essay The Uncanny (1993).
