Events

This year will be quite the active one for Permanent Collection space at the José de Guimarães International Arts Centre-CIAJG, with its offerings alternating between older and more experienced artists, and its wide variety of programs and events in store, which include the display of some never-before-seen works by the Centre’s namesake, José de Guimarães. In the first exposition cycle of 2017, we will take up the theme of the body from different points of view – the body and death, the body and war, the body and history, and the representation of the body. We are living in uncertain times; everything is changing at a rapid pace and off into random directions. In this cycle, we will talk about change and permanence, and show both the large and the small scale, the universal and the intimate. Living in an epoch of doubt, memory assumes a fundamental importance. Thus we note how various artists are working with archives, which reach out to the past and bring it to the present to prepare perhaps for the future. Let’s see to it that we, the audience-actors, can also arrive at the same perspective!
