Aldeia de Quintandona (Quintandona Village)

Penafiel
Description
Located in the parish of Lagares, Quintandona configures a typical preserved village, of beauty and unique architecture. The cluster of buildings in stone slate and shale, the same configuration soil and the vast agricultural and forest landscape that surrounds it, are differentiating factors of great tourist attraction. In the village, there is a chapel with more than 200 years and an association - The ComoDEantes - supporting a range of activities, especially theater. The gastronomy of the village is very varied: the ham and pork sausages, roast kid and the baked rice, in addition to desserts – the traditional bread, the Penafiel pies, milk-cream, the bolinhos de amor (love cookies), and S. Martinho pies. Every year in September, takes place the Festa do Caldo - typical festivity – allowing the opportunity to serve traditional soups and to recreate in the XXI century the 1950s and 1960s, a time when the soup was the staple diet of the Portuguese rural population. The path that goes from the village to the Monte da Pegadinha (Pegadinha Mountain) is a natural viewpoint for the entire area.
