Of ilenar origin, the village of Ermelo conserves an admirable architectural heritage, which highlights an important cluster of covered schist houses with slate, real examples of rural architecture.

Located in the lower area of the Alvão Natural Park, the scenic beauty of Ermelo, joins the Mountain wild with the green farm fields and water from Olo runs at his feet.

They are still visible marks of its history, its antiquity and its importance as a medieval village and as the county seat. The Pillory, the Town Hall and the rich ethnographic and cultural heritage are noteworthy. It had its first charter in the distant year 1196.
