The construction of the Town Hall is due to the Mayor of the City Hall, Dr. Augusto Braga de Castro Soares, who played functions between 1938 and 1942, starting its construction in 1943 under the responsibility of the architect Alfredo Leal Machado.
The building delivered by the Ministry of Public Works to the City Hall of Espinho, on the 12th January 1944, is a typical construction of the “Estado Novo”, with its austere appearance, role represented in the society. It is also characterized by a hard volumetric architecture imposing monumentality. It can be seen the verticality and the repetition along the facade. Style "Português Suave" (Soft Portuguese).
