José Vasques Osório Shelter

Peso da Régua
Description
By a testamentary clause, the building that served as homestay to the family of José Vasques Osório was converted into a shelter for homeless children. Its interior was adapted by the architect Teixeira Lopes so as to include sleeping quarters, bathroom, classrooms, dining hall, infirmary, playgrounds and workshops. Next to the house, a hostel was built to provide homeless people with lodging and a hot meal. At the same time, it was also built a private chapel known as the shelter’s chapel. Its façade evinces a close connection to the vine and the wine.
