Works by artist João Noutel, to see in S. João da Madeira
Exhibition explores link between shoe and hat in the city where they are reference
Inauguration scheduled for Saturday, May 12 at 5:00 p.m., in the Paços de Cultura
The exhibition "The Shoe Case" by João Noutel opens on Saturday, May 12 at 5:00 p.m., in the gallery of the Paços da Cultura of S. João da Madeira, where it will be open until September 2, with free admission.
There, the public will have the opportunity to observe how the artist explores the connection between two timeless clothing accessories - the shoe and the hat - that are reference products of the San Juan industry.
With the historic presence of footwear and headgear in the city, João Noutel reinterprets the original function of these objects in works of strong visual impact, "through an iconography with codes and language of their own."
Born in Porto in 1971, João Noutel lives and works in Lisbon. His work has been featured in several national and international publications of contemporary art, being represented in several private and institutional collections in Portugal, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Greece, England, Dubai, India and the United States.
In 2015, he received the Abel Manta Painting Award. In 2018, he was one of the artists present at the international exhibition "Variations Portugaises" on the panorama of contemporary Portuguese art at the Center d'Art Contemporaine Meymac, France.
