'Christmas in the Market' from 30 November to 30 December
In the midst of lights, decorations, music and lots of entertainment, the first edition of 'Christmas in the Market' will bring together more twenty exhibitors at the Municipal Market of Santa Maria da Feira. Their proposals will include typical Christmas flavours, agri-food products and urban and traditional handicraft. Entry is free of charge, and the event will open on November 30, with the arrival of Father Christmas at 9.30pm, running from Thursday to Sunday until 30 December.
The Santa Maria da Feira Municipal Market - the work of architect Fernando Távora, considered a reference in Portuguese architecture and classified as a monument of public interest - will host, from 30 November to 30 December 30, the 'Christmas in the Market' event, which will include an agri-food area and an area for trading products of urban and traditional crafts, as well as designer and vintage products, all allusive to the Christmas season. The event will give space to traditional gastronomic Christmas products, from sweets with ginger to warm wines and chestnuts, and to products of urban and traditional crafts, such as nativity scenes, fashion, jewellery, decoration and toys, among others. The Market will also host the Lucity! project, a light installation, which also includes workshops and moments for experimentation, in collaboration with the local community.
'Christmas in the Market' will be open from Thursday to Sunday, except for 26 December (Wednesday). On Thursdays, the hours will be from 12.30 to 10pm; on Fridays, from 12.30 to midnight; on Saturdays from 10am. to midnight; and on Sundays, from 10am to 10pm. On opening day, the event will be open between 5pm and midnight.
At the same time, the event will present a diverse entertainment programme for all types of audiences. We highlight the six Christmas Brass Bands, made up of musicians from the philharmonic bands and university choirs of Santa Maria da Feira - Vale Martial Band, Arrifana Music Band, Lobão Music Band and Souto Music Band, S. Paio de Oleiros Music Band and Estrela de Argoncilhe Music Group. On Saturday/Sunday mornings, the characters of Perlim will spread the magic of Christmas throughout the Municipal Market of Santa Maria da Feira.
The official opening of 'Christmas in the Market' will take place on 30 November, with the arrival of Father Christmas and the inauguration of the Christmas lighting at 9.30pm.
Taking advantage of visiting residents and the thousands of tourists who, at this time of year, travel to Santa Maria da Feira, 'Christmas in the Market' was created with the strategic intention of enhancing their visit and experience of the city’s historical centre.
