Northwest of the village of Carvelhelhos, overhanging the Holy Spring Water of Carvelhelhos, you will encounter a grand fortified population, the Oppida of Carvelhelhos or ''The Castle of the Moors''. At 860m altitude, it is considered one of the most important castreja (fortified building of pre-Roman times, or Roman castles) stations of the Northwest Penisular of which it's era begun from about the Iron Age II essentially through the 1st century BC until the end of 1st century AD. Here you will find three visible walls of moat and the existence of bristly stones which served to impede the marching of both man and horse. Up until today, 11 circular and rectangular living areas have been discovered, as well as some archaeological traces of slag which highlight the importance of metallurgical activity in the region, two buckles of brass, bronze Roman coins and silver, fragments of pottery all of which are typically castreja.
