Conheiros de Janarde (geosite 19)

Arouca
Description
In the surroundings of the Janarde village, it is possible to observe from its highest point, but in the right bank of the river, in the Alvarenga parish, an old exploration of alluvial gold, probably initiated by the Romans, that would be contained in the deposits of the convex phase of the meanders (piled up pebbles and flints). This set of piled up flints testify the open skies extraction in the banks of the Paiva river. The “conheiros” result from the ore extraction of the river terraces through the fine matrix washing.
