It is the former home of the writer José Maria Ferreira de Castro (1898-1974), author of books like "A Selva” (The Jungle) that describes the emigrants drama and the exoticism of the Amazon jungle; and the book “Volta ao Mundo” (Travel around the World) that describes his trip of almost two years, just before the World Word II broke out.
This building dates from the mid-nineteenth century and is now a museum which includes the author`s books, manuscripts and objects, including shoes and the suitcase that accompanied him on his trip all over the world.
