The Quinta da Covela is located on the right bank of river Douro and was blessed by nature: it has an amphitheatric shape faced south, it has a microclimate nearly the mediterraneous climate and its granite soils result in unique wines – by its great quality and by its distinct character.
Since the 90s of last century, the Covela Wines, made by national and international grapes, are synonymous of innovation, quality and individuality. Since 2012 that this farm produces “Vinho Verde” (Young Wines) made by one only grape “Avesso” and “Arinto”, the two main grapes of the “Vinhos Verdes” subregion of Baião.
From this Farm, in the lower Douro region, with 49 hectars, we can enjoy an extraordinary natural beauty, marked by both, the vineyard and the memory that humanizes it. The old Casa de Covela is formed by the ruins of the ancient Manor and its chapel – testimony of the presence of multisecular wine production – to which the main house and cellar are now gathered. The draw and restoration of the house were made by the owner at that time, Manoel de Oliveira, one of the greatest European film directors from the second half of the XXth century.
Receiving visitors in a pleasant atmosphere makes part of the ADN of Covela team. From spring to fall it is possible to taste the wines and the regional delicacies while enjoying the magnificent views over the vineyards or over the terraces.
